Nova Música Brasileira para Cordas

Ricardo Herz & Camerata Romeu

Ten original compositions for solo violin and string orchestra, recorded live in Havana.
This collaboration brings together Ricardo Herz’s rhythmic and melodic writing with the precision, energy, and swing of Camerata Romeu.

The Story

A collaboration recorded live in Havana

Ricardo Herz met Camerata Romeu in São Paulo in 2016, during a performance by the Cuban ensemble with Egberto Gismonti.
The orchestra’s precision, rhythmic flair, and joy in playing sparked a desire to create music together.

Two years later, this connection evolved into a concert and a recording.
In July 2018, Ricardo returned to Havana to record ten original works live at the Basílica Menor de San Francisco de Asís, the ensemble’s home base.
The repertoire highlights the rhythmic possibilities of the Brazilian violin in dialogue with a string orchestra.

“Clear, energetic, new, fresh, and rhythmically intense music.”

Zenaida Romeu · Conductor and founder of Camerata Romeu
