Ricardo Herz and the New São Paulo Choro
A concert devoted to choro, led by Ricardo Herz’s violin and by musicians who are renewing the genre’s language in São Paulo.
The repertoire brings Ricardo’s compositions into the traditional regional line-up and revisits choro classics with new arrangements, energy and freedom of improvisation. The music honours tradition while asserting a contemporary voice.
The ensemble
The project was conceived for Ricardo Herz on violin, Gian Correa on seven-string guitar, Henrique Araujo on cavaquinho and mandolin, and Rafael Toledo on percussion — musicians deeply active in choro and contemporary Brazilian music.
Tradition in motion
The violin becomes the leading voice of a regional, while plucked strings and percussion build counterpoint and grooves. The project treats choro as a living language, open to new arrangements and dialogue between generations.
