Ronco do Violino, Forró de Rabeca!
To warm our souls and bones, four researchers, composers, soloists and improvisers create a forró with violins and rabecas — traditional Brazilian folk fiddles — played by Ricardo Herz and Vanille Goovaerts, and percussion by Guegué Medeiros and Alice Vaz.
Violin and rabeca blur into one another in a blend where groove is the law. Xote, baião, forró, xaxado, maracatu, frevo and much more. Instrumental versions of classics and original compositions set this dance in motion. In this forró, tradition and the new invite each other to dance — and stay together all night long.

Tradition and invention
Each musician develops a distinctive line of research, expanding the possibilities of their instrument — violin, rabeca and percussion — within forró and Brazilian instrumental music. This work also moves through rhythms such as frevo, maracatu and chamamé, always leaving room for improvisation, encounter and invention.
The bowed strings lead the project’s identity; in the current line-up, Guegué anchors the low end and the groove on zabumba, while Alice completes the pulse on triangle.
For different settings
The project works equally well as a concert or a dance and can be part of programmes devoted to Brazilian music, popular celebrations and dance gatherings. The format is designed to create closeness with the audience and an immediate response on stage.
