Ricardo Herz

Solo concert

Ricardo Herz — Solo Violin

A violin that generates its own pulse, accompaniment and foundation. In his solo concert, Ricardo Herz distils his language for the Brazilian violin into a performance of remarkable intimacy with the audience.

Without a band, the instrument takes on many roles: melody, harmony, bass, percussion and improvisation. The rabeca — a traditional folk fiddle from Brazil’s Northeast — the phrasing of choro, the swing of forró and the breathing pulse of the accordion enter into dialogue with contemporary violin techniques.

Solo Violin live

A direct view of the format’s stage presence, sound and rhythmic possibilities.

Repertoire and language

The programme brings together original compositions and new readings of Brazilian music, shaping a musical arc that alternates pulse, lyricism, humour and improvisation. The absence of an ensemble does not diminish the music: it makes every gesture more visible and brings the audience closer to the creative process.

The concert and beyond

The concert can be combined with a masterclass, workshop or artistic residency, especially for string students, popular musicians and groups interested in rhythm, articulation, improvisation and percussive resources for the violin.

It is an especially versatile proposition for festivals, chamber music series and educational programmes.
