Ricardo Herz — Solo Violin
A violin that generates its own pulse, accompaniment and foundation. In his solo concert, Ricardo Herz distils his language for the Brazilian violin into a performance of remarkable intimacy with the audience.
Without a band, the instrument takes on many roles: melody, harmony, bass, percussion and improvisation. The rabeca — a traditional folk fiddle from Brazil’s Northeast — the phrasing of choro, the swing of forró and the breathing pulse of the accordion enter into dialogue with contemporary violin techniques.

The programme brings together original compositions and new readings of Brazilian music, shaping a musical arc that alternates pulse, lyricism, humour and improvisation.
